And when the economy turned, and the heat of prudential and journalistic investigations were turned up, it was scorched; the scheme promoter disappeared, taking it all with him.

Other investments found there way into diversified funds, which had no stable core to them. The managers could not keep up with the administrative challenges necessary to keep track of the funds, and they gradually were lost in the administrative jungle.

Yet other investments found their way into solid growth assets, bringing forth returns which were beyond the investors’ wildest dreams, multiplying and increasing and yielding thirty and sixty and a hundredfold."
