What would God do if we turned to him? The traditional view, perhaps held by the average Australian, probably considers that God would condemn, or at least express anger in a significant way. In reality, that is the attitude most have for their own failures and mistakes: we kick ourselves for missed opportunities, stupid comments, and idiotic actions. Why then wouldn't God respond with "I told you so!" (or at least that's how the reasoning follows.)

Tucked away in the  middle of the parable of the sower and its explanation is a truth which stands in stark distinction to such an attitude. When Jesus was questioned about the reason he spoke in parables, part of his reply declared "they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them."

Let those words sink in for a moment. God waits to heal those who turn to Him.

And yet, how often we hold back. We wait before coming to God and seeking forgiveness. We are scared of offering our whole lives to Him, knowing what we know about ourselves. We are more content in holding on to the scars and wounds of life than receiving the healing and hope that God has to offer, because we have mistakenly believed that God only waits to punish us.

This attitude extends to other parts of life. We are afraid to go to the doctor about the recurring pain, lest we discover something nasty. We hesitate going to a friend to apologise lest they spurn us. We demur when a new opportunity presents itself for fear of failure. And our inaction cuts us off from the hope of healing, reconciliation and growth.

The arms of God are open to receive all who turn to Him. He stands ready to offer healing and hope - no matter what the circumstances you face at this moment. Turn to Jesus - in Him is healing to be found.
